Beautiful historic landmark and great view of the building ensemble during the 40 min boat trip.
Just take a boat tour and the final point of the canals is here and you will see it directly from the front while touring by the boat.
Interesting place with an intriguing history. It was built in 1489 and was part of the city wall. This fortified bridge over the river was by Maximilian of Austria in 148. It was built after his unsuccessful siege of Ghent. This building has two towers. It was recently restored and has become a cultural destination.

Last sluice of the 9 sluices (or rabots) on the old canal, the Lieve, between Ghent and the Northsea. Beautiful building.
The place is located at the end of a small stream which the riverboats are using to make a u turn, so you can also enjoy it by that point of view. It is very well maintained and it definitely stands out with its appearance.
As every other historical building in the city centre, just on the canal, it was nice passing by while having a stroll. However, the structure and its immediate surroundings seemed a bit rough and untidy. After all, it is not precisely in the centre, but still... It was probably nicer from far.
Aesthetic gates built to protect a river entrance to Ghent. Apparently while other groups and societies use this building today for public functions, no weddings take place here. Why? Because the acoustics are such that everything said within the walls travels everywhere and so indiscretions or unflattering comments about the bride or groom will be heard by all!!
A very good place for the halal food items. Different shops like butcher's, grocery, snacks, pizzas, home decorations and utilities etc..available and worth the amount you spent here.
northern most towered gateway of the ancient wall around gent. Was a water gate where barges and boats bring goods into Gent paid their tolls. Waterway ends there so take the boat tour to visit. nothing else to see really.
